Telecom Briefing Objective

After almost a dozen years of fits and starts by the Bell operating companies, FTTX is finally taking off in the U.S. while the foreign market is being driven by NTT and its competitors in Japan.

Although there are many players now in the U.S. such as municipalities, CLEC's, Rural Telephone Companies, and others, it is the Bell operating companies that will drive the FTTX.  Verizon and SBC have already announced their plans and Bell South is expected to reveal their plans soon.

This briefing will review the plans of the RBOCs and other players in the U.S. and NTT and its competitors in Japan, and assess the potential in China. The briefing will provide an analysis of where the market opportunities are likely to be for components, subsystems, systems, contractors, installers, investors, and those interested in the growth of the optical networks business.

Issues to be explored include:

  • Analysis of architectures and technologies proposed
  • Forecasts of number of homes passed and take rates
  • Review of plans of municipalities, rural telcos and other players
  • Critical components needing development
  • Test and measurement needs
  • Opportunities for contractors and installers
  • Forecasts of equipment and components markets
  • Cost trends and targets
  • Present status of FTTX in the Asia-Pacific region

Who should be interested:

  • Systems suppliers
  • Components suppliers
  • Subsystem suppliers
  • Contractors and installers
  • Consultants
  • Systems integrators
  • Venture capitalists
  • Investors
